Google’s “Help Me Write” Now Available on Gmail

Google has extended its AI-powered “Help me write” feature to Gmail’s web version, aligning it with the capabilities previously available on mobile devices. Users accessing Gmail through their browsers will now have prompts to utilize this AI tool when composing new emails.

Access to this advanced writing tool remains exclusive to subscribers of Google One AI Premium and Workspace users with the Gemini add-on. The feature can do more than generate drafts; it offers users the ability to modify their messages through various stylistic adjustments, such as adding more formality, expanding content, or shortening it as needed.

Additionally, Google is introducing a “polish” shortcut within its “Help me write” feature. This option automatically appears for draft messages containing more than 12 words. Web-based Gmail users can access this tool through a dedicated shortcut or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + H.

The mobile version of Gmail will see a transformation of its existing “Refine my draft” feature. Rather than requiring users to swipe through multiple editing options – including polish, formalize, elaborate, and shorten – the new system will automatically enhance messages with a single swipe of the “polish” shortcut. Additional fine-tuning remains available through Google’s suite of AI editing tools.

Starting today, Google is initiating a phased deployment of the web-based “Help me write” feature and its accompanying “polish” shortcut, marking a significant enhancement to its AI-powered email composition capabilities.
