FBR Permits Foreign Tourists to Temporarily Import Vehicles into Pakistan
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that foreign tourists are now allowed to temporarily import vehicles into Pakistan for a duration of three months, as detailed in a recent notification.
Key Details
According to the notification issued by the FBR, tourists who import a vehicle under a carnet de passage or with a bank guarantee can receive their vehicle from the customs officer at the point of entry without the need to pay customs duties. To benefit from this provision, tourists must declare at the customs station or port of entry that they will not transfer ownership of the vehicle to anyone else during their stay in Pakistan.
Furthermore, in cases where it is impractical for tourists to export their vehicles within the initial three-month period, they may apply for an extension to the respective Collector before the expiration of that period. This extension can last for an additional three months, provided the tourist maintains a valid carnet de passage or bank guarantee and agrees not to leave the country during the extended period.
Implications
This initiative is expected to enhance tourism by allowing foreign visitors greater mobility while exploring Pakistan.
