Shahid Afridi Supports PCB’s Decision to Drop Babar, Shaheen, and Naseem
Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has expressed his support for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection panel’s decision to drop Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah from the Test squad ahead of the second Test against England in Multan.
In a post on social media platform X, the legendary cricketer stated that excluding these star players could ultimately benefit the team. He emphasized that the much-needed rest would help rejuvenate them, potentially prolonging their careers.
Afridi noted that this decision also provides an opportunity to assess emerging talent within the squad, allowing them to gain valuable game time and enhancing Pakistan’s depth in the talent pool.
As the father-in-law of pacer Shaheen Afridi, Shahid Afridi refrained from singling out any player in his comments.
His support for the selectors comes amid a period of chaos within the PCB, with management and captaincy facing scrutiny.
Notably, Afridi’s statement follows a warning from former cricketer and analyst Basit Ali, who advised him to “identify his friends and enemies,” suggesting that Shaheen has been targeted by those in charge.
