Ex-Indian Cricketer Draws Parallels Between Pakistan and Afghanistan Cricket
Renowned former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja, who is currently serving as a mentor for the Afghanistan cricket team during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, has drawn insightful parallels between the cricketing trajectories of Pakistan and Afghanistan. His unique perspective highlights the similarities between the two teams’ journeys in the world of cricket.
In a recent interview, Jadeja shared that he has imparted his strategies and tactics to the Afghanistan cricket team. He expressed his belief that Pakistan was once in a similar position to Afghanistan, emphasizing the growth potential of the team.
“I am ready and I shared my learnings with the Afghans, and I believe Pakistan was once like Afghanistan. You could say anything you wanted in the face of your teammate,” Jadeja remarked.
Having played 15 Tests and 196 ODIs for India, Ajay Jadeja was appointed by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) as a mentor for the Cricket World Cup 2023. His experience and insights have been invaluable to the team.
Afghanistan’s performance in the tournament was commendable, securing a sixth-place finish and ensuring their spot in the Champions Trophy 2025. They ended the World Cup 2023 in sixth position on the points table, achieving memorable victories against notable teams such as England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands. Their near victory against Australia was particularly thrilling, though they ultimately fell short due to a stellar performance from Glenn Maxwell.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Trott, the current head coach of the Afghanistan cricket team, along with the team’s captain Hasmatullah Shahidi, praised Ajay Jadeja for his significant contributions to Afghanistan’s World Cup campaign.
