Ubisoft the publisher behind blockbuster titles like Assassin Creed and Star Wars Outlaws has responded to rumors of a potential sale addressing recent media speculation.

This follows reports from a U.S. media outlet suggesting that Tencent and the family of Ubisoft’s co-founder and CEO, Yves Guillemot, were considering a buyout. These rumors surfaced after the delay of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” and the underwhelming performance of “Star Wars Outlaws.”

In a statement, Ubisoft acknowledged the speculation, stating: “Ubisoft has taken note of the recent press coverage regarding possible interests surrounding the company. We regularly evaluate all strategic options for the benefit of our stakeholders and will update the market if and when necessary. For now, our management is focused on executing the company’s strategy, which revolves around two key pillars—Open World Adventures and GaaS-native (Games as a Service) experiences.”

Last month, Ubisoft postponed the release of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” from November 15, 2024, to February 14, 2025. The delay followed the weaker-than-expected performance of “Star Wars Outlaws” and a drop in profits for the quarter.

Additionally, Ubisoft announced a major shift away from its traditional Season Pass model. All players will now have access to the game simultaneously when it launches on February 14, 2025.

CEO Yves Guillemot emphasized that Ubisoft is focused on refining its execution, particularly through a player-centric approach. He added, “We are launching a review to improve performance and accelerate our strategic direction to benefit both our stakeholders and shareholders.”
