If you are turning 18 or never had a Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) before, don’t worry — getting your new CNIC in Pakistan is now easier than ever. In this article, we’ll guide you through the simple steps of applying for a new CNIC.

What is a CNIC?

A CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) is your official identity card issued by NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority). It proves that you are a citizen of Pakistan and is required for many important things, like voting, getting a passport, opening a bank account, or buying property.

Who Can Apply for a CNIC?

You can apply for a CNIC if:

  • You are a Pakistani citizen
  • You are 18 years old or above
  • You have a Form-B or Child Registration Certificate from NADRA

Step-by-Step Process to Apply for a CNIC

Step 1: Visit a NADRA Registration Center

Go to your nearest NADRA Registration Center (NRC). You can find a list of centers on NADRA’s official website or visit one directly in your city.

Step 2: Take Required Documents

Bring the following documents with you:

  • Original Matric certificate or Birth certificate
  • Father’s or Mother’s CNIC (original and copy)
  • Guardian’s CNIC (if applicable)
  • Your B-form (if available)

Step 3: Token & Photograph

At the center:

  • You’ll get a token number
  • Your photo will be taken
  • You will give fingerprints and digital signature

Step 4: Data Entry

A NADRA officer will enter your information. Check everything carefully and correct any mistakes on the spot.

Step 5: Biometric Verification

Your fingerprints will be matched and verified.

Step 6: Review and Approval

You will receive a printed form to review all details. If correct, you’ll sign it.

Step 7: Fee Payment

Pay the CNIC fee. As of now:

  • Normal CNIC: PKR 400
  • Urgent CNIC: PKR 1,150
  • Executive CNIC: PKR 2,150

How Long Does It Take?

  • Normal CNIC: Around 30 days
  • Urgent CNIC: 15 days
  • Executive CNIC: 7 days

You’ll receive an SMS from NADRA when your card is ready. You can then collect it from the same center.

Can You Apply Online?

Yes, you can also apply online through NADRA’s Pak-Identity Website. This is useful if you live abroad or want to avoid going to the center.

Important Tips

  • Always bring original documents
  • Double-check all your details before final submission
  • Save the token or receipt NADRA gives you
