PSX Records Fifth Highest Single-Day Gain, Rising Nearly 1,900 Points
On Friday, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) saw a remarkable surge as the KSE-100 Index gained 1,893.08 points, closing at 90,859.85 points. This increase marks the fifth highest single-day points gain in the exchange’s history.
According to Arif Habib Limited (AHL), the KSE-100 index has risen by 45.5% in the calendar year 2024 to date, positioning it as the third best-performing equity market worldwide.
During the trading session, a total of 465,865,841 shares were exchanged, down from 546,274,609 shares the previous day. The total value of shares traded was Rs. 23.089 billion, compared to Rs. 24.117 billion from the last trading day.
A total of 430 companies participated in the trading, with 220 experiencing gains, 156 facing losses, and 54 maintaining stable share prices.
The most actively traded companies included Silk Bank Limited, which traded 62,534,221 shares at Rs. 0.94 per share, K-Electric Limited with 57,568,675 shares at Rs. 4.67 per share, and WorldCall Telecom with 27,214,192 shares at Rs. 1.22 per share.
Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited achieved the highest increase in share price, rising by Rs. 572.11 to close at Rs. 19,161.11. Siemens (Pakistan) Engineering followed with a Rs. 58.62 increase, bringing its share price to Rs. 1,451.49.
On the downside, Rafhan Maize Products Company Limited saw the largest decline, with a drop of Rs. 158.40, closing at Rs. 7,541.60. Sapphire Fibres Limited also fell, decreasing by Rs. 61.61 to finish at Rs. 1,216.11
