Samsung’s Cheaper Galaxy Fold May Not Be Coming After All
Samsung has recently introduced a new variant of its foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition, featuring a slimmer design and improved camera capabilities. While there were rumors about the release of additional variants, including a more affordable option, it appears that this may no longer be in the cards.
According to Sammobile, citing an unnamed Samsung official, the company has confirmed that it currently has no plans to launch a less expensive version of its Galaxy Z Fold line.
Samsung Electronics stated: “Rather than considering it (Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition) a premium product, it’s a product released to expand your options. You can choose according to your taste. As of now, we have no plans to release a separate product with a lower price.”

This statement does not entirely rule out the possibility that Samsung had previously entertained the idea. Earlier this year, reports emerged suggesting that Samsung had postponed plans for a potential Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE, which was expected to be a more budget-friendly foldable option.
Reports indicate that an initial production run of the rumored Z Fold 6 FE yielded unsatisfactory results, leading to its cancellation. The test devices reportedly did not achieve significant improvements in thickness and weight compared to competing foldable phones from Chinese manufacturers. Additionally, the absence of a stylus digitizer, which would eliminate S Pen support, was seen as a significant drawback. Combined with market uncertainties, these factors ultimately led Samsung to abandon the project.
As it stands, a more affordable Galaxy Z Fold seems unlikely in the near future
