Sajid Khan Takes a Jibe at Pakistani Selectors
Pakistani off-spinner Sajid Khan has subtly criticized the selection committee after his impressive performance during the ongoing second Test against England.
Following a stellar display that helped his team gain the upper hand on day 2, Sajid expressed his frustration over being dropped from the squad for the previous series.
This match marked the 31-year-old’s first Test appearance since facing Australia earlier this year. After concluding day 2 with figures of 4-86, Sajid voiced his disappointment during the PCB’s post-match show, emphasizing his consistent performances that went unrecognized.
“I used to be one of the top performers, but I was always the first to be dropped. I bowled well against Australia in their home conditions, yet I was dropped without any reason,” Sajid remarked.
He further elaborated, “Before the Bangladesh series, I played club cricket for Lancashire and prepared for red-ball cricket, but I didn’t get a chance. I’ve stayed ready by playing domestic white-ball and red-ball cricket, and whenever you get an opportunity, you have to perform.”
Sajid made his debut against Zimbabwe in 2021 and entered the series with 25 wickets at an average of 38.16 in eight Tests. In his last appearance in Sydney, he recorded 3-122 as Pakistan lost the series 0-3. Although dropped after that series, Sajid was recalled for the second Test against England following significant changes after Pakistan’s loss in the series opener.
His performance was pivotal in dismissing England for 291 on day 3, where he claimed seven wickets, putting his side in a commanding position in the match.
