Pakistan, China Resolve to Deepen Strategic Cooperation, Expedite CPEC
Pakistan and China reaffirmed their commitment on Tuesday to deepen strategic cooperation in key areas such as the economy, investment, and regional connectivity. Both nations stressed the urgency of accelerating the implementation of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
This commitment was underscored during a meeting between Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr. President Zardari warmly welcomed the delegation, highlighting that Pakistan’s relationship with China remains a cornerstone of its foreign policy.
President Zardari emphasized exploring new avenues for cooperation to expand bilateral relations and the importance of enhancing connectivity through all-weather road networks to bolster trade and people-to-people linkages. He encouraged Chinese companies to invest in Pakistan, particularly in the Pakistan Stock Exchange, leveraging the opportunities presented by CPEC and Gwadar Port.
The president also announced his upcoming visit to China in November, anticipating discussions to further strengthen bilateral ties. He reflected on his previous visits to China and acknowledged China’s unwavering support on key issues of mutual importance.
President Zardari expressed heartfelt condolences over the tragic loss of two Chinese nationals in a terrorist attack, emphasizing that such incidents deeply grieve the entire nation. He assured the Chinese Premier that Pakistan would take all necessary measures to enhance the security of Chinese nationals working in the country and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
He also appreciated China’s support to Pakistan on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and reiterated Pakistan’s support for China on core issues, including the “One China” policy, Taiwan, Tibet, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and the South China Sea.

Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed that Pakistan and China are steadfast brothers, neighbors, partners, and friends. He emphasized that Pak-China strategic cooperation would continue to deepen under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and recognized President Zardari’s contributions to strengthening bilateral relations. Premier Li expressed confidence in the continued growth and strengthening of the partnership between the two nations.
He stressed the need to accelerate CPEC development projects and affirmed China’s support for Chinese companies investing in Pakistan. He appreciated Pakistan’s firm support for China on all its core issues and assured continued Chinese support for Pakistan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and prosperity.
The meeting concluded with a state luncheon hosted by President Zardari in honor of the visiting Chinese Premier and his delegation.
