PTA Starts Third Phase of SIM Blocking Operation

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is entering the third phase of its operation aimed at curbing the illegal use of mobile phone SIM cards.

According to sources from the PTA, this phase will focus on permanently blocking all SIMs registered in the names of deceased individuals. All such SIMs will be blocked if their ownership is not transferred by October 15.

Transfer Process

The regulator has urged individuals to transfer ownership of these SIMs by presenting a valid death certificate as part of the process. Additionally, the following documents are required for the transfer:

  • Proof of relationship with the deceased
  • The original SIM card
  • Proof of the current SIM

Previous Actions

PTA officials stated that SIMs issued on expired ID cards prior to 2017 have already been deactivated. To date, around 70,000 SIMs registered with canceled or fake ID cards have also been blocked.
