Ariana Grande Lights Up Saturday Night Live with a Broadway Inspired Monologue
Ariana Grande made a dazzling return to ‘Saturday Night Live,’ taking on hosting duties for the second time in her career.
The pop sensation, who has recently been starring in the hit musical Wicked, kicked off the show in true theatre fashion, transforming her opening monologue into a Broadway-style performance. For every theatre enthusiast, landing a role like Glinda or Elphaba in the beloved Oz-inspired musical is a dream come true, and Grande playfully embraced that sentiment in her vibrant entrance.
With a lighthearted and witty tone, the Grammy winner reflected on her first time hosting the iconic NBC show back in 2016, a time when “another woman was running for president.” She cheekily remarked, “I guess the second time’s the charm,” nodding to the fact that this time around, she wasn’t doubling up as both host and musical guest.
This episode featured legendary Stevie Nicks as the musical guest, allowing the 31-year-old Grande to focus solely on hosting. “I’m just hosting,” she said with a smile, adding, “I’m not going to make this about me; I’m just here to have fun, take it easy, and keep things low-key.”
Of course, the 7 Rings singer couldn’t help but showcase her incredible talent. While she promised a laid-back approach, she quickly broke into a spontaneous ballad that evolved into a full-blown cabaret-style number. Grande seamlessly shifted from impersonating Britney Spears to paying tribute to Gwen Stefani’s vocals, all set to the tune of No Doubt’s classic hit, Don’t Speak.
Though she vowed not to mention her current role in Wicked, she humorously encountered cast member Bowen Yang, hilariously dressed as Glinda in full costume, adding to the playful energy of her monologue.
Grande’s mix of humor, charm, and undeniable talent once again proved why she’s a fan-favorite, effortlessly making her mark on Saturday Night Live for a second time.
